Goat Track Success Stories
Here are four success stories of young people from Goat Track given to us from kids who credit Goat Track Theatre for their growth in confidence. Please take a moment to rate them in order of achievement.
A shy, autistic kid performs for the first time in front of a group and enjoys it.
A child who has never put himself forward for a leadership position decides to nominate for school captain and gets it.
A girl who has been relentlessly bullied at school, takes her power back by confidently standing in her truth. She then proceeds to make new friends.
A boy auditions for a major professional show and is given a lead part.
It’s impossible, right? Why?
Because the improvement that each child is experiencing in each case is not relative to anyone else. It is relative to who they were yesterday. It is about them. Each year we celebrate the achievement of young people at ‘The Green Carpets.’ I once heard it reported that a parent had said the awards were worth less because so many kids got one.
I respectfully and vehemently disagree. This is the kind of thinking that separates kids into those who are worthy and those who are not. It is normally, backed up with arguments like ‘you don’t get an award for just showing up’. I don’t get an award for just turning up to work.’ But of course you do – it’s called a wage. So participation is important isn’t it?
Add to this, that these kids didn’t just “Show Up.” They took risks, overcame personal challenges, created positive change and got results. And in my opinion, this is something that to be celebrated, not ranked.
