2024 - Lost in Wonderland

Cedar Grove is a small town that finds itself in the midst of an unfolding tragedy. Young people keep going missing and there is no sign of where they are. We pick up the pieces with a journalist from the local news station as she tries to put the pieces together. With every interview she gets closer and closer to unraveling the mystery. But only one person can release the people from Wonderland and it is up to them to awaken the characters trapped and bring them back up to Cedar Grove.

Our students have embarked on a transformative year-long journey in the creative process of bringing "Lost in Wonderland" to life. From the initial concept to the final rehearsals, they have immersed themselves in all aspects of production, embracing the challenges and joys of theatrical creation. The Fast Track Production Program is designed to allow students to not just focus on the art of acting for stage but also see the entire creative process from beginning to end. They work side by side the director and have left their ideas and finger prints throughout the whole of the play.

The genesis of "Lost in Wonderland" began with a thought-provoking question: Why do people want to escape to Wonderland? The cast from Mudgeeraba delved into this question and unearthed many compelling answers. They explored the notion that individuals seek refuge in Wonderland to escape the complexities of the real world or are involuntarily thrust into its depths. This exploration forms the emotional core of the production, infusing it with themes of escapism, self-discovery, and resilience.

Through a blend of improvisation and scene development, our students have breathed life into the captivating characters that populate Cedar Grove in the early stages of the development of this play. Each character embodies a unique blend of vulnerability, determination, and mystery, mirroring the multifaceted nature of human experiences. The organic evolution of these characters has added depth and authenticity to the narrative, ensuring that the audience will connect with their emotional journey.

The crafting of the script has been a collaborative endeavor in the truest sense, with students contributing their creative insights and narrative arcs. The process of refining dialogue, pacing, and dramatic tension has been guided by a dedication to authenticity and storytelling prowess. As rehearsals unfold, the students have embraced the nuances of their roles, infusing each moment with raw emotion and genuine vulnerability.

"Lost in Wonderland" is a testament to the unwavering dedication and creative fervor of our students. Their commitment to every facet of the production, from inception to execution, has yielded a theatrical experience that resonates with profound authenticity and imaginative vigor. As we venture into the world of Cedar Grove and beyond, we invite the audience to join us on this spellbinding journey, where mysteries unravel, hearts entwine, and the transformative power of storytelling takes center stage.
